Climate change poses a serious threat to the lives and livelihoods of all people. The historical result of the grabbing of fossil fuels by global elites, cimate change today is already devastating the lives of millions. But what few realise is that some of the methods proposed for tackling climate change can themselves have very destructive effects. In the guise of dealing with climate change, powerful interests are continuing to grab resources.

A new international climate scheme called "Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation of forests" (REDD) is a part of international negotiations around climate change. REDD basically is a scheme intended to channel money from rich countries to developing ones for the purpose of protecting their forests. Unfortunately, REDD and its latest avatar, REDD-plus, have become part of the Copenhagen Accord. While it sounds wonderful on paper, REDD is actually a facade for what will become a massive land grab - with devastating consequences in India and around the world.
